Why We March Against Monsanto – Winnipeg, 2016

On May 21st, 2016, Winnipeggers came together and stood with the rest of the world against the corrupt, corporatist, coercive monopoly that is Monsanto and their impact on the food system world wide.
We marched through The Forks in Winnipeg spreading awareness and pushing the necessity of demand for organic food away from GMOs and Monsanto.
Now, it’s not necessarily GMOs (genetically modified organisms) that are the problem as much as what GMOs are used for. With the extremely toxic glyphosate getting into people’s roundup resistant food, countless studies show the damages it can do to the human body, not to mention countless other bugs and animals.
It is up to us as individuals to push this message forward and create even more awareness so that the demand for Monsanto’s slow-kill food dries up. We need to support the companies that are voluntarily labeling their food. Monsanto is simply a government monopoly. A result of corporate fascism.
We should also be demanding an end to the intellectual property and patent laws that make it possible for Monsanto to maintain their monopoly through suing farmers due to cross pollination.
We shouldn’t advocate to pull the rug out from under farmers who use roundup as a cheap alternative. We need to manipulate the market in our favor and if enough people understand, more people will buy products that are GMO free and the price effectiveness will change.
Change starts with the individual.
