The Retail Apocalypse CONTINUES As Sears Closes MORE Stores!

Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the continuation of the incredibly epic retail apocalypse which has claimed countless massive businesses and seen bankruptcies across the board.
Sears has just announced that they will be closing 72 more stores and have identified 100 stores on top of that which are not profitable and are set to be shut down in the near future.
This comes soon after news broke that many mall owners are looking at using the space where major box stores once stood and utilizing them as apartments and hotels to actually see cash flow.
As Amazon takes over under the guise of convenience while getting billions of dollars of subsidies, the once massive monopolies are closing their doors. Sears is one of dozens of major businesses closing down locations and laying off employees all over the United States, Canada, Britain and elsewhere.
As John mentions, while it has a lot to do with online sales, it also has a lot to do with absolutely astronomical debt build up which is simply unsustainable and has to come down.
People do not have the money they once had on average and people can’t go buying overpriced plastic toys at Toys R Us, or overpriced shirts at Sears or Zellers. Macy’s which once bragged of being the biggest store in the world cannot make ends meet anymore. We wonder what will happen to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York!

People must cut costs and so must mall owners. We are living in an indebted time and the only way out is individual financial responsibility and self sustainability. It comes down to the individual, not some bank or government. You are the change you wish to see.

Stay tuned as we continue to cover this issue!

Toys R Us was Bain Capital taking it over and leveraging the value, taking the money, and then collapse.
On-line sales are about 10%. No one has any money that is why everything is folding. If you don’t have any money you pay bills and buy food only. No clothes, no restaurants, no toys, no extras. I haven’t bought new clothes in years. I buy slightly used clothes shops or Goodwill. My biggest expense is for my dogs with food and dog walkers. Once they pass I’m not getting more. I got silver so I can buy dog food during the collapse.

Sears in my town was spared, but it is in trouble. I wouldn’t doubt if it closed by the end of the year. We just recently lost Macy’s, Toys R Us and Kmart. JC Penny isn’t doing good either.

What you are seeing is a shift. Now you only need one store per city and support that with online sales.   Amazon doesn’t make anything. There goal is to have the lowest prices and put everyone else out of business, and or buy out others via loan and then they will start making money.

I pay for everything with a credit card, including any bills that except credit card payment(think my car payment is all that comes directly out of my bank account). This is because it’s a cash back card and I pay all balances completely off every week, not even every month. Several hundred dollars back every year and not having to carry much cash is worth it if you’re actually responsible with it.

Sears has been perpetually going out of biz since I was 9 and I’m 37… It was a mail order catalog retailer originally.. Bunch of made in China and Bangladesh SLAVE labor trash clothes and products anyway.. Nobody Cares Josh.. people go from mom and pop stores to corporate stores, then right back to buying local. F@ck Sears and the jobs that go with it, the American needs to revamp the entire way it does business and who it does it with.. I understand we all need jobs, but if fear is all that holds anyone back then they have us ALL by the balls…

Amazon is operating close to negative as well. So much so that they are getting subsidized UPSP delivery service from the government. Basically, they are using their might and subsidized shipping to squeeze out as many brick and mortar stores as they can. Also, it sure feels like people are broke and just not buying as much as our dollar does not go very far now. Anyone who’s been to the grocery store lately knows you can only get about 1/4th the amount of food for the same money as just a few years ago. The food suppliers have shrank portion sizes and still charge more now as well. Even a lot of fast food costs close to $15-20 for two people now.

Thing is, nobody wants to dish out a large loan, without some sort of guarantee. With banks, the loans are essentially backed by the government. Plus, there’s fractional reserve banking, so they gain by default. The real sick part of our financial world, is that it’s a ponzi, and yet somehow some people get jail time for credit they we’re issued. If banks are issuing out credit based on a insolvent source, then only they should be held responsible, and regardless, should pay for their own cost of business.. Where’s the morality?

? You bring up a lot of good points but I’d like to add a few things too. I live in Dallas and as you know it’s a giant city with a lot of homes that were built pre and post World War II. These homes are now falling apart in 2018. These families mostly Latino and black don’t have the mean’s, the money or the brains to kill the termites and bugs that are eating away these Shacks whether brick or wood or whatever. These homes are nothing but garbage cans now. MOST need major foundation repair also. The joke here in Dallas is everyone wants to be showee and drive a $50,000 pickup truck and live in a $20,000 rundown Shack. Most everyone is broke but they put up a front driving around in a nice van or pickup truck and live in a dump. I’m just telling it like it is.?

Please remember that Morgan Stanley a few months ago said that we are heading for a 30 to 50% plunge in the price of new and used cars within the next few short years.? That would be devastating?

If Malls can be converted to Apartments & here in Ferguson Commercial Property built with NO Emergency Exits…..all I can say is in the 30 years I ran a small business, there were distinctly different zoning/structural differences – seems like a set-up on many levels. Plus, they never liked us Independent Contractors to begin with. Thus, no business & trade/barter will never be kosher with the MF (Money Funders)….. we’re toast
